service modification - route 1113 & 1114 impacted

On September 15, 2021, the City was given notice that Durham Transportation Services, the City’s school bus program operator, will not have the necessary number of qualified drivers to operate all three of the City’s routes beginning this Friday, September 17. In order to continue providing services to the extent possible, Durham has proposed the combination of Routes 1113 ( Green) and 1114 (Blue) into one route with a new timetable set to begin on Friday, September 17. Route 1115 (Orange) has not had its pickup times affected, drop off times may be adjusted slightly and is pending review. The newly combined route does not eliminate any of the current pickup locations, but does however necessitate modifications to the pickup and drop off times. The timetable below shows the estimated pickup and drop off times at each location. While some stops are not impacted, others have had their pick up or drop off times modified by as much as 30 minutes.

Additionally, the times provided are Durham’s best estimates and are subject to change once the new route is put into operation. The City is in active communication with the Las Virgenes Unified School District and Durham, however, they do not know when or if they will be able to rehire the necessary number of qualified drivers to restaff all 3 of the City’s routes. The City will continue to remain in communication with Durham in order to bring updates to parents as soon as they become available. We encourage parents to review the new timetable in order ensure that it fits your needs, and if for any reason you would like a refund of your bus pass as a result of these changes, City staff are available to process refunds. If you have questions regarding these changes, please contact City Hall at (818) 706-1613.

Fall 2021 update - transit program expected to operate

Earlier today, City staff received word from the City’s bus service provider, Durham Transportation Services, that they believe they have secured the necessary number of qualified drivers, to operate the Westlake Village Transit Program for the school year which begins August 18th. Barring any unexpected events, the City’s three routes will operate as planned on the first day of school.

While the outlook for the program was not as certain as of yesterday, City staff have been in constant communication with Durham throughout the day to assist them in finding a solution to serve our community. As this has been and continues to be a fluid situation due to the nationwide qualified driver shortage brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Westlake Village City Council and staff are committed to bringing you the greatest level of reliability possible in the program for this school year.

We encourage parents to continue to have alternate plans ready and available in the unanticipated situation that something impacts Durham’s operation of the buses next week or at any point throughout the school year.

While we are excited with the prospect of the routes running as planned, the City will continue to remain in regular communication with Durham to bring you updates as we have them.
