As part of their Infrastructure Replacement Plan, Southern California Edison (SCE) has undertaken an ongoing effort to inspect poles to make sure they are in good condition and not overloaded. This long-term company project has been initiated in the Westlake Village area. The comprehensive pole loading assessment will first focus on inspecting poles in high fire and high wind areas. During the initial assessment phase, teams of Edison contract staff will visually inspect and inventory equipment on each pole. Edison has contracted with Infotech and its subsidiary Utility Data Consultants (UDC) to perform this work. Pole inspections will not require outages; however, some customers may be impacted when poles are located on private property. In this case, a representative from SCE or one of our vendors will be required to access the pole to complete the inspection. Pole replacements will follow a set schedule, so customers will be notified in advance if they'll be affected. When poles require replacement, SCE will notify all affected residences and/or businesses and also limit the extent of the outages. In some cases, remediation work may require substantial construction efforts impacting traffic and noise. Pole replacements will be scheduled based on CPUC guidelines, with the highest risk poles being replaced immediately and lower risk poles being replaced in up to 5 years. When applicable, appropriate city permits will be pulled. The impacts in Westlake Village are anticipated to be minimal as most of the utilities are underground in the City.
Edison appreciates resident's support as they make these needed system improvements that will ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable power for their customers and the community.
