About Us

In partnership with the City Council and the community, the Planning Department creates and implements plans, policies, and programs that enhance the quality of life in Westlake Village. Through the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance, the Planning Department ensures that all development and activity in the community is consistent with Westlake Village's special character and vision for its future.

The Planning Department's activities include:

  • Preparing, updating, and administering the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance
  • Reviewing all proposed projects and improvements for consistency with the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance
  • Performing environmental review of proposed projects pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act
  • Presenting proposed projects to the City Council and Land Use Committee
  • Administering the Oak Tree and Heritage Tree Preservation program
  • Overseeing the City's contract with the County of Los Angeles for Building and Safety services 
  • Ensuring Municipal Code compliance through the Community Preservation program
  • Administering the Community Development Block Grant fund program including the housing rehabilitation grant program and small business grant program
  • Administering the City's solid waste, recycling, organics, and food recovery programs
